We remember with pride when Naomh Barróg was founded in Scoil Lorcáin, Kilbarrack-Foxfield in May/June,1974. The Club Members had the vision and the ability to take risks and confront difficulties that came our way. We were motivated to provide the best opportunities, facilities, and positive environment for our members. It was our wish that playing Gaelic Games would challenge and inspire our members, especially our young members, to grow with confidence, dignity and self-respect.
In September 1984, ten years after being founded, we officially opened Páirc Bharróg. In September 1986 we opened our two Dressing Rooms with Showers and Meeting Room and where we held our Weekly Mentors meetings, etc. We continued with our vision during the ‘90’s by employing an Architect Company and fulfilled this dream when in July 2001, we opened Áras Bharróg. In February 2004 we opened the All-Weather Pitch and in July 2017 we Opened our Hurling Wall.
In 2024-2025 Naomh Barróg celebrated its 50th Golden Jubilee. It was a time to review, to reminisce and to remember with gratitude and respect our former members who died during this period to the present day. They laid the foundation stones and by their generosity, commitment, loyalty and love for our Club, they assisted in making us the Club we are today.
On Sunday the 15th of February, at 4pm, we acknowledged and fulfilled that promise when with dignity and ceremony, we opened our Memorial Space, a sacred space. It is important for our members, young and old, to be proud of this decision, so that we can remember, honour and thank them.
There was a wonderful and positive response of respect and gratitude from the many family members and Club Members who attended this special day of remembrance, to open our Memorial Space. The Ceremony of blessing, reflection, prayer, healing, symbolism, and beautiful music was meaningful, dignified, and spiritual. A sincere thanks to everyone, our Club Members, family members, and friends who helped to make this jmportant occasion special and nostalgic.
Le dea-ghui,
Dick Fields
